Mythic+ Boost Explained

Updated November 4, 2026By Mara Vellin

Mythic+ is a form of repeatable dungeon content in World of Warcraft in which a dungeon is run at a chosen difficulty, usually with a timer. A Mythic+ boost, often called a key carry, is a paid service in which a group of experienced players runs a key with you. This guide explains what such a service generally involves. Details such as exact key levels, rewards and seasonal rules change from one season and game version to the next, so we keep the claims here general. Check the current rules in game.

What a key run carry involves

In a typical carry, you buy a run at a given key level. A team of boosters, which normally includes a tank, a healer and damage dealers, joins you in a group. They complete the dungeon while you take part. The aim is that the key is finished, and finished in time if you ordered a timed run.

Several things can be agreed with the seller before the run:

  • Which dungeon, or whether it is the seller’s choice.
  • The key level.
  • Whether the run must be timed.
  • Whether you play yourself or the service is piloted. See self-play vs piloted boosts.
  • What happens to loot that drops, if any, and who has the right to it.

Timed versus untimed

A Mythic+ key has a time limit. If the group finishes inside it, the key is timed. If the group finishes after it, the key is untimed. Whether a run is timed typically affects the outcome of the key, including how the key level changes and how much the run counts for towards weekly progress and rewards. The details differ by season, so read what applies now.

Point Timed Untimed
Result Finished inside the limit Finished after the limit
Typical use Better progression for the key, usually the goal of a purchase Still a completion, but usually a weaker outcome
What to ask the seller Whether a timed finish is promised, and what happens if it is missed Whether an untimed finish counts as a completed order

This is the most important point to settle before you pay. Some sellers promise a timed finish, some promise only a completion. Read the wording, and keep it with your order. If a service promises a timed result, ask what the seller does if the group misses the timer.

Vault rewards in general terms

Mythic+ runs are commonly tied to a weekly reward system, often called the Great Vault. In general, completing a number of dungeons during the week unlocks a choice of rewards at the end of it, and the quality of those rewards tends to follow the difficulty of the content you completed. The exact thresholds and reward levels are set by Blizzard and change from season to season.

This is why many players buy carries. A set of runs can open reward slots for the week. A boost does not guarantee a particular item, since drops and choices are subject to chance and to the rules in force. Any seller that promises a specific item should be asked how it can keep that promise.

Choosing a key level

A higher key generally offers better rewards, but it is also harder, takes more effort to carry, and costs more. A few points should guide the choice.

  1. Start from what you want. If you want a vault slot, find out which key levels give a useful result this season.
  2. Look at your character. A character with low gear may find a very high key hard to follow, even when carried.
  3. Think about the time you have. High keys may take longer and need your full attention if you play yourself.
  4. Compare cost with benefit. A step up in key level can raise the price by more than the reward improves.
  5. Consider a lower level first. A first order at a modest level lets you judge the seller before you spend more.

What to prepare

  • Know your class, spec and current gear level.
  • Have your character ready at the right place and with the right gear equipped.
  • Know the dungeons, or at least their basic mechanics, if you will play yourself.
  • Be online at the agreed time, with a working voice or text channel if asked.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • Is a timed finish promised, or only a completion?
  • What happens if the key fails or the group wipes?
  • Is the run self-play, and will I be asked for any login?
  • Who keeps the loot that drops?
  • What does the refund policy say?

Risks

As with other paid services, Blizzard’s terms may restrict boosting, and an account can be sanctioned. Sharing a login adds a separate risk. Delivery depends on the seller, not on this site. Our safety guide sets out habits that apply to any paid service, and how we review explains how we judge sellers on account safety and support.

Summary

A Mythic+ carry puts you in a group with experienced players so a key gets finished, ideally on time. Settle three points before paying: timed or untimed, self-play or piloted, and what happens to loot. Choose a key level that matches your goal and your character, and begin modestly. The seller carries out and supports the order. We earn a commission on purchases, as set out in the affiliate disclosure.

After the run

Once the key is done, check the result against the order. Was the key level right, was the run timed if that was promised, and did the group complete the dungeon? Note what you received and keep screenshots of the completion screen. If something does not match, contact the seller’s support with your order number and the evidence. Do not wait until the end of the week, since a missed window for weekly rewards may not be recoverable.
